Daughter of the Cretan King Minos and Pasiphae. She fell in love with Theseus and helped him slay the Minotaur and escape the Labyrinth by giving him a ball of thread (Ariadne's thread) so that he could retrace his way out. When Theseus fled Crete, he took her with him but abandoned her on the island of Naxos. That is where god Dionysos saw her and married her making her immortal.
